Alstom is investing 600 million HUF (1.5 million EUR) to construct a logistics hall at its factory in Mátranovák, Hungary.

The project is the final stage of the 6 billion HUF (145 million EUR) Mátranovák 2030 Development Program, supported by the Hungarian Government.

The new 827-square-metre facility will enhance storage capacity for raw materials, components, and finished products to meet increased production needs. The investment is expected to boost the site’s production capacity by 40% by the end of 2025.

Design work is currently underway, with construction planned to begin in spring 2025 and completion within one year.

As part of the Mátranovák 2030 Development Program, Alstom has modernised its production technologies and transitioned to a cell-based manufacturing system to improve efficiency. Investments include new edge bending machines, upgraded plasma cutting equipment, nearly 60 rotators, and a new welding robot.

The Mátranovák site, which has produced bogie frames for metro and railway assemblies for 40 years, is set to become one of Alstom’s largest bogie frame manufacturing locations in Europe. The frames, critical for train safety, are used in various types of rail vehicles across Europe.

Gáspár Balázs, the General Manager of Alstom, Hungary said:

“With the implementation of the development programme, the site will significantly increase its production capacity by 2025, so this would be Alstom's most significant bogie frame manufacturing site in Europe. The bogies made in Mátranovák will be found in Alstom's railway vehicles throughout Europe. As well as a strategic partner of the Government of Hungary, we contribute significantly to country’s export performance. The bogie frames of all the rolling stock offered to MÁV, MÁV-HÉV and BKV will be manufactured in this factory.”

Alstom employs over 700 professionals at the Mátranovák factory, making it the largest employer in Nógrád County. The company has been active in Hungary for over 20 years, supplying metro trains and locomotives and modernising passenger trains with advanced control systems.
