The Société de transport de l’Outaouais (STO) has contracted Groupe Porteur to deliver professional, technical, and multidisciplinary services for the Gatineau-Ottawa tramway project in Canada.

The consortium consists of SYSTRA Canada, Egis, and EXP.

This 24-kilometre tramway will connect downtown Gatineau to Ottawa, Canada’s capital, enhancing urban mobility and fostering sustainable connections between the two cities.

Working alongside architectural firms, Richez_Associés and Provencher Roy, Groupe Porteur will support the TramGO Project Office throughout all phases of the 114 million CAD project.

This work will include:

  • Conducting technical and environmental studies
  • Managing procurement
  • Supervising construction work and commissioning tests
Samuel Derosiaux, Executive Vice President of Transit at SYSTRA Canada said:

“We are deeply honoured by the trust the Société de transport de l’Outaouais (STO) has placed in Groupe Porteur for this significant project. We will dedicate our most talented professionals to every phase of its delivery. Together, we are committed to offering citizens an efficient, sustainable and innovative transportation system that is perfectly integrated into the urban environment of the cities of Gatineau and Ottawa.”

In Spring 2025, Groupe Porteur will deliver a detailed work plan outlining all project deliverables and schedules. This will guide future public consultations and ensure smooth project progression.

The technical and environmental studies for the Quebec portion of the tramway, covering 22 kilometres of the 24-kilometre route, will also commence this spring.

The 24-kilometre tramway will cover 22 kilometres in Quebec and 2 kilometres in Ontario. It will follow a Y-shaped circuit with a South branch (10.5 km) and North branch (7.5 km). The line will serve 37 stations, including four multimodal exchange hubs.

The new service is targeted for commissioning by 2035.

Guillaume Halde, EXP’s Senior Vice President, Infrastructure said:

“The Gatineau-Ottawa tramway is much more than just a transit project. It embodies an ambitious vision of sustainable mobility, infrastructure modernisation, and development of the urban fabric. With Groupe Porteur, we are proud to be part of a project that will shape the future of this dynamic region. Behind this project stand a host of people—members of our multifaceted teams, including urban planning experts, whose greatest strength lies in their local roots.”
