Flexible ARCO Meets Substantial Cable-Load Demands

Multiple troughs of our versatile cable containment product ARCOSYSTEM® were stacked vertically to meet the demanding cable-load requirements for a recent installation in Berlin.

The job took place in the area of Pölnitzweg, based in the Pankow district of the German capital, and was part of a major overhaul of a railway overpass in order to expand the line to accommodate a second S-Bahn track.

ARCOSYSTEM®, the rail industry’s leading elevated cable management system, was chosen to safely contain and protect the various power and digital communication cables that would run trackside.

Five separate troughs were required to carry the total cable load for the job, but installing all five side-by-side would be too wide due to the route being situated along the foot of a sloping embankment, so the troughs were stacked on top of each other across just two rows. This was made possible by attaching the troughs to strong HEA posts via ARCOSYSTEM®’s complementary range of bespoke laser-cut steel bracketry.

Being manufactured from glass fibre reinforced polymers (GRP/FRP), the ARCOSYSTEM® troughing is lightweight and can therefore be angled and adjusted with ease during installation along a tricky route where space is restricted. It can also span up to six metres between support posts, making fitting quicker and less burdensome for on-site engineers. Furthermore, ARCO’s composite construction provides long-term durability, with the troughing resistant to heat, water, corrosion, UV rays, and a wide range of chemicals.

Varying cell sizes of troughing are also available to accommodate the requirements of any application.
