Alstom has completed the first phase of a wider installation of solar panels at its industrial site in Santa Perpètua, Barcelona, with energy production already underway.
The installation forms part of a photovoltaic solar energy project at the site that is expected to produce energy equivalent to up to 26.5% of the facility’s total energy consumption.
Thus far, 2,419 solar panels have been installed on the roofs of workshops and office buildings on site, as well as the associated parking area, with spaces now covered in order to accommodate their inclusion.
Alstom has stated that the second phase of installation is scheduled for completion before the end of June 2025, with additional solar panels set to be installed in a secondary parking area.
In total, the project, which has been developed in collaboration with Edison Next, will involve the installation of 3,596 photovoltaic panels across 9,000 square metres, reaching for a combined peak power of 2,041 kWp and 2,776MWh of clean energy pear annum.
Alstom’s Santa Perpètua site, as well as its other Spanish factories, relies solely on electricity generated from renewable sources, following an energy efficiency plan in order to reduce overall consumption throughout operations.
