Unveiling of the Geo-Portal System for Smarter Transportation Infrastructure
The Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization has launched its advanced Geo-Portal system, integrating spatial intelligence to enhance the management and monitoring of transport infrastructure.

Aref Romina, Director General for the Information Technology and Smart Systems Department, announced the unveiling of this cutting-edge system, which leverages GIS technology, spatial intelligence, and a robust cloud computing infrastructure to enable real-time monitoring and management of the nation's road network.
A Key Step towards Efficiency and Safety
Romina described the Geo-Portal system as a transformative initiative aimed at reducing maintenance costs, improving road safety and enhancing the quality of road services. He outlined the system’s core strategies, which include:
1. Comprehensive data collection
2. Rigorous data quality control
3. Cloud-based storage for secure record-keeping
4. Standardized mapping and reporting
5. Integration of data into decision-making procedures
6. Ongoing user training
Centralized Access and Usability
The Geo-Portal system features a centralized database with tiered access levels, ensuring that relevant information is available to a wide range of users. Romina also stressed that the system not only addresses daily operational needs but also fosters creativity by meeting the innovative demands of its users.
Interoperability and Future Development
Mr. Romina further highlighted the system’s ability to integrate seamlessly with other software and systems within the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization. By facilitating the reuse of spatial data and providing standardized spatial and analytical services, the Geo-Portal system is poised to revolutionize the organization’s approach to road management.
He also stressed the importance of continuously developing and updating the GIS infrastructure, noting that this ongoing process will ensure optimal utilization of spatial data. The RMTO aims to take significant strides toward smarter road transport by enhancing transparency, improving reporting speed and enabling data-driven decision-making.
*Public Accessibility*
To further promote transparency, Mr. Romina revealed that the information and data collected through the Geo-Portal system will soon be accessible to users and stakeholders via the RMTO’s data exchange portal.
The implementation of the Geo-Portal system represents a critical step in leveraging technology to modernize Iran's road transport network and align it with internationally recognized best practices in intelligent infrastructure management.
