49 Roadside Service Areas to be launched in 2024

The Acting Director of Economic Affairs, Investment and Financing at the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization announced the commissioning of 49 roadside service areas nationwide in the last year, along with the initiation of construction for an additional 66 areas.

According to, Mohammad Hajjarzadeh the issuance of preliminary approvals for the construction of 923 roadside service areas, placed during last year, noting that currently, 1,108 areas are operational across intercity highways, providing services to travelers and road users.


Dr. Hajjarzadeh highlighted that, on average, one operational service area exists for every 83 kilometers of the national road network, further stating that the construction of 567 additional areas is underway. Once completed, these projects are expected to reduce the average distance between operational areas along highways to 54 kilometers, significantly enhancing service accessibility.


The official also revealed that 1,965 preliminary approvals have been issued for the construction of new areas, with the projects currently undergoing approval processes from competent authorities. Upon completion of the required clearances, construction activities for these complexes will commence.


Dr. Hajarzadeh also stressed that the construction of roadside service areas, supported by private sector investment, is aimed at providing essential amenities to travelers and road users. He underscored the significance of short stops at these facilities in mitigating driver fatigue and drowsiness, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and enhancing road safety across the country.
