Development of Transport Services in Astara Border Collaborating the Russian Federation
The Director-General for the Department of Transit and International Transport of the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization has announced a joint agreement with the Russian Federation to invest in developing diverse transport services, support facilities, vehicular infrastructure and amenities required for drivers in the hinterlands of the Astara border.

Javad Hedayati stated: "In recent days, the 18th Joint Economic Commission between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation was hosted in Moscow, focusing on enhancing road transport activities within the Internatinal North-South Transport Corridor."
Mr. Hedayati detailed that during a technical session, attended by the Chairman of the Russia-Iran Business Council, representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of the Russian Federation, and senior officials from the Departments of transit and investment of RMTO, discussions were held on the infrastructure of multimodal transport in the Astara border area. The session also covered the meassure of activities by Iranian and foreign transport fleets, the economic potential of Astara within the North-South Corridor, the mechanisms for economic collaboration through investment, and the stages of contract finalization.
The Director-General stressed that the Russian representatives, citing the recently approved and enacted strategic cooperation document between the two nations, underscored the significance of Astara’s role in fostering economic ties with the Eurasian region. They expressed a strong desire to expedite the administrative processes necessary to initiate Russian investment in the Astara BCP hinterland.
Hedayati further highlighted that both parties agreed to establish a joint expert working group to draft a roadmap as well as action plan for the execution of operational activities, signaling a significant step forward in bilateral economic and transport collaboration.
