IRU receives award for promoting Eurasian integration
IRU wins the “Eurasian communications 2017” award, recognising its role in promoting Eurasian integration and championing the role of transport in the region.
IRU’s New Eurasian Land Transport Initiative (NELTI), which monitored commercial deliveries of goods by road on various itineraries between Europe and Asia, was awarded first place by the jury in the category “Mutual trade and transport and logistics corridors”.
Based on data from 200,000 border crossings, the NELTI study found that 57% of transport time is lost at these crossings, adding to increased costs of 38% due to unofficial levies, highlighting the potential for TIR to counter these issues.
Representing five Eurasian Economic Union member states, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia, the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) announced the award during Eurasian Week in Astana.
