Q-Free & Texas Highway Products upgrade controllers in Greater Dallas

Q-Free is to provide at least 240 traffic controllers to the city of Plano, which is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth conurbation in Texas, US.

The contract, in partnership with Texas Highway Products, is to provide the 2070LDX ATC controllers along with Maxtime intersection control software to the city of Plano, Texas. 

It expands the two companies' work in North Central Texas, where they currently have deployments in Dallas, Garland, Richardson and McKinney.

The latest deal was secured through the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) TxShare Cooperative Purchasing Program, and replaces all the traffic controllers previously provided by "a competing vendor".

Plano, north-east of Dallas, is home to 290,000 people, and Q-Free says that the deal means its roadways, on frontage roads and at interchanges along President George Bush Turnpike and Sam Rayburn Tollway, "can efficiently manage traffic flow for the city's residents and business commuters".

Q-Free CEO Mark Talbot says the company's solutions are designed for seamless interoperability across vendors: “Taken on its own, this is a significant agreement, but the potential to alleviate cross-jurisdictional congestion—during normal hours, peak travel times, and regional emergencies—is profound.”

Giovanni de Vivo, president of Texas Highway Products, agreed: “Drivers don’t stop when they cross jurisdictions, and traffic management shouldn’t either. With Maxtime, Plano’s engineers have the tools to develop more sophisticated timing plans, especially at challenging intersections near hospitals and overpasses, ultimately making roads safer for drivers and emergency responders alike.”
