U.S. carrier Avelo Airlines will begin serving Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) in May, a switch from previous service to Chicago Midway Airport (MDW).
Avelo has flown summer seasonal flights between Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN), its largest U.S. East Coast base, and MDW for the last three years. But when the route resumes on May 15, the carrier will operate a Boeing 737NG between HVN and ORD, which the airline has not served before.
The HVN-ORD route will be operated 2X-weekly.
Meanwhile, the airline on April 3 opened its eighth aircraft base at Wilmington International Airport (ILM) in eastern North Carolina. Avelo will initially station one 737NG at ILM, with plans to add a second 737NG later in the year.
The carrier marked the opening of the ILM base by launching three new routes from the airport to Manchester, New Hampshire; Nashville International Airport (BNA), Tennessee; and Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC), New York. All three routes will be operated 2X-weekly.
The opening of the ILM base follows last month’s establishment of a base at Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) in western North Carolina. USA is located about 20 mi. from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. On April 3, Avelo opened a 2X-weekly route between USA and BNA.
The carrier additionally on April 3 opened 2X-weekly flights between BNA and ROC. From April 4, the airline is kicking off 2X-weekly routes between Manchester and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and between HVN and Detroit.
