According to GTT, this approval enables LNG tanks equipped with Mark III technology to be converted for ammonia (NH3) use aboard LNG-fuelled vessels, enhancing their versatility by allowing them to operate on another fuel in their second life.

ABS is pleased to award this AiP to GTT for their practical NH3-Ready Mark III containment system. This development aligns with our commitment to supporting the maritime industry’s transition to alternative fuels and demonstrates the potential of Mark III technology in addressing future energy challenges.

Meanwhile, David Colson , Commercial VP of GTT, said: “We are very proud to receive this new AiP, which testifies to the relevance of our Mark III technology for ammonia-fuelled ships following the extensive test campaign carried out by GTT. While the use of ammonia as fuel is still to be proven, this approval brings us a step closer to enabling multi-gas conversion on vessels fitted with GTT technologies, reinforcing our position at the forefront of sustainable maritime solutions.”

To remind, GTT has also recently received design approval from Bureau Veritas and General Approval for Ship Application from Lloyd’s Register for its GTT NEXT1 LNG cargo containment system.
