NWA to carry out $88m road rehabilitation project in Jamaica
The National Works Agency (NWA) in Jamaica is set to begin a $88m road rehabilitation project from Essex Hall to Burnt Shop roadway in St. Andrew.
As part of the rehabilitation works, the agency will repair a 3.6km road section, which will also include significant improvements to the drainage system, construction of Gabion retaining walls and other retaining structures, as well as breakaway repairs.
NWA will also reshape and resurface the roadway using asphaltic concrete.
Rehabilitation works will be covered under the Jamaican Government’s Major Infrastructure Development Programme (MIDP) and carried out by local contractor Alcar Construction.
NWA acting communication and customer services manager Janel Ricketts said that the rehabilitative efforts by the agency is now at an advanced stage as the preparatory works have already been completed and the emphasis is now on the asphalting of the corridor.
Last week, NWA also initiated $18m upgrade works on the Stettin to Freemans Hall roadway in Southern Trelawny.
Works covered under this project include rehabilitation of nearly 700m of the roadway to include drainage improvement, along with the reshaping and overlay of the road surface using asphaltic concrete.
Both these projects are slated for completion in October.
