With Lufthansa set to resume flights to Frankfurt later this month and charter traffic reaching record levels in 2024, Bydgoszcz Airport in Poland is accelerating efforts to expand its network through new scheduled and leisure routes.
“The restoration of this connection is a source of great satisfaction for us and a testament to our airport’s expanding role in both regional and international air traffic,” a spokesperson for Bydgoszcz Airport told Routes at Routes Europe 2025, referring to the Lufthansa service, which begins April 27 and reconnects the Kuyavian-Pomeranian region with one of Europe’s key hubs.
The German carrier’s return follows a strong year for the airport, particularly in the charter segment, where Bydgoszcz handled 88,662 passengers—up 47% year-on-year. New routes to Palma de Mallorca and Marsa Alam helped drive the increase, with the Egyptian destination becoming the airport’s first year-round leisure service.
“We now have the most attractive route network in years—combining legacy carriers, LCCs, and popular holiday destinations,” the spokesperson said. “Our top priority remains further network development, which is why we are working intensively to attract new connections and increase the availability of both scheduled and charter flights.”
The spokesperson said a major opportunity for the airport and region is the development of MRO activities. “We have established cooperation with key players in the aircraft maintenance sector and aim to transform Bydgoszcz into a European maintenance hub,” they said. “This initiative can bring significant benefits—from job creation to support for local businesses.”
