Trenitalia launches €1.6bn diesel train tender
TIN news: ITALY’s national operator Trenitalia has launched a tender for a €1.6bn framework contract to supply up to 135 diesel-electric passenger trains and to maintain them for 15 years.
The framework contract will be valid for four years with an option to extend it by another two years. Trenitalia will guarantee to purchase 70 trains, 30 of which will be ordered when the framework contract is signed.
Trenitalia estimates the value of supplying the 135 trains at €958.5m while the full-service maintenance element is estimated at €637m. There will also be an option to extend the maintenance contract for another 10 years, which will be worth €424.7m. The service contract will require maintenance at levels I and II with the work to be carried out at Trenitalia depots.
The single-deck fixed-formation trains, which are intended for regional services, will have distributed traction with an option to equip them with ERTMS.
The closing date for requests to participate in the tender is July 5.
